ABOUT PERU

Peru is a land of great diversity and contrasts. From the bone dry coastal deserts up to the high glaciated mountains and beyond to the humid Amazon rainforest. At times one finds it difficult to believe how these very different worlds exist so close to each other.

Culturally as well there is quite a span. From the modern fast paced business oriented people of Lima to the hoarding communities of the highlands who still speak their naive dialect quechua and do traditional weavings much as they have for thousands of years. As well there still exists un contracted tribes of the amazon of whom very little is known about.

Many paces feel stuck in a time long past while others are rapidly changing. Most of the people have few material possessions but tend to smile a lot. Often they are friendly and interested in talking with travelers.
